Stay Mindful
Paranoia Disorder
Paranoia is when someone feels overly suspicious or mistrusting of others, often without any real reason. People with paranoia might believe that others are trying to hurt them, spy on them, or are plotting against them, even when there’s no evidence to support these ideas. This can make them feel anxious, scared, and isolated. Over time, these feelings can become so intense that they start to affect everyday functioning and relationships.

In “The mind of the mindful”, floating eyes can be seen acoross the forest, and figures of shadow staring at the viewer as the progress throughout the animation. This is to symbolise the extreme feeling of paranoia a person may feel, as the shadows don’t interact with each other, and are constantly watching the viewer creating feelings of discomfort.
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves, often causing them to lose touch with reality. Individuals with schizophrenia might experience symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations such as seeing or hearing things that aren’t there and disorganized thinking.

Within “The Mind of the Mindful”, shadows appear when the viewer isn’t looking and vanish once they turn their gaze. A subtle, persistent whisper echoes throughout, creating an atmosphere of discomfort and unease. This immersive experience is carefully designed to reflect the unpredictable and often distressing nature of living with schizophrenia.
Depression
Depression is a mental health disorder that causes persistent feelings of sadness, emptiness, and a lack of interest in activities. It can make people feel as if they’re trapped in a constant state of negativity, often affecting their ability to function in everyday life. Those experiencing depression might also struggle with fatigue, changes in appetite, difficulty sleeping, or feeling worthless.

Depression is symbolized in the exhibition by a thick fog that envelops the forest. This fog obscures the viewer’s view, preventing them from seeing too far ahead, much like how those struggling with depression often feel lost and unable to envision a hopeful future. The fog represents the weight of sadness and despair that clouds their ability to look forward, leaving them feeling stuck and disconnected from what lies ahead. For many, depression creates a sense of hopelessness, making it hard to imagine a way out or believe in the possibility of change.
Anxiety Disorder
Anxiety is a natural response to stress or danger, but when it becomes excessive or chronic, it can interfere with daily life. It involves feelings of worry, nervousness, or unease, and can be accompanied by physical symptoms such as a rapid heartbeat, sweating, or difficulty breathing. however, if the symptoms of anxiety are constant, or frequent, even in non stressful situations, then it may be a symptom of anxiety disorder.

Within the forest, a path diverges into two, and the viewer will stop to assess their options. This simulates the anxiety of choice, there is no indication of which way to go, which creates a stressful situation in which the viewer cannot resolve on their own. The viewer will have no way of knowing which path leads to the exit, and which leads to a worse fate. This fear symbolises the anxiety in a person, because as humans, we aren’t perfect, and don’t know all the answers, this fear however is enhanced in a person suffering with anxiety disorder.
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition marked by dramatic shifts in mood, energy, and behaviour. People with bipolar disorder experience periods of extreme highs, known as mania or hypomania, and periods of deep lows, or depression. Some people may believe they are bipolar because they may be quick to anger, but that is not the case, as people with Bipolar Disorder experience extreme highs, and devastating lows.

Within the “Mind of the mindful”, Bipolar disorder is shown through colour, red and blue. Specifically the two figures, one large red man, representing mania, and one small blue man, representing the depressive episodes.
